The trail ends where it remembers the most. Past Svidník it follows the valley where one of the largest battles of the Second World War in the Carpathians was fought in the autumn of 1944: the Valley of Death, with tanks left standing in the meadows as a memorial.
The final climb leads to the Dukla Pass and its memorial on the Polish border. Find the last red-white-red mark, take the photo, and look back: Devín is about seven hundred and thirty kilometres behind you.
