The Great Fatra opens up above the forest into wide, grassy ridges. The trail climbs to Kráľova studňa, a hotel and a spring at 1,300 metres, and then follows the open crest to the junction under Krížna, at 1,574 metres the highest point of the stage.
On a clear day you can see half of central Slovakia from here. In bad weather this crest is exposed: check the forecast. The descent over Veľký Šturec and Zvolen ends in the resort of Donovaly.
